Choose a Reed Switch for Bosch Solution 2000

Protect doors, windows, roller shutters and other openings with a compatible hard-wired magnetic contact connected to a Bosch Solution 2000 alarm zone. Choose from surface-mounted, recessed, steel-door, wide-gap, armoured and heavy-duty roller-door reed switches.

This collection includes compatible contacts from Bosch, TANE, Sentrol and other specialist manufacturers. They are not all Bosch-branded. The correct choice depends on the opening, frame material, mounting method, contact output, operating gap, cable protection and zone wiring.

Best For: Adding perimeter protection to doors and windows, replacing an existing hard-wired magnetic contact, protecting steel frames or selecting a heavy-duty contact for a garage, roller shutter or commercial opening.
Important: Bosch Solution 2000 supports compatible hard-wired reed switches. Wireless reed-switch transmitters are not supported as wireless detectors on this panel. Do not purchase a wireless reed switch for a Solution 2000 installation.
Compare Reed Switch Types
Reed-switch type Best suited to Check before ordering
Surface mount Standard doors and windows where the contact can remain visible. Colour, dimensions, cable entry, contact output and available mounting surface.
Recessed or flush mount Timber doors and frames requiring a discreet finish. Drill diameter, installation depth, frame construction and operating gap.
Steel-door recessed contact Metal doors and frames where a standard contact may be affected by surrounding steel. Cut-out size, contact orientation, magnet type, output and stated gap.
Wide-gap contact Openings with movement, vibration or greater separation between contact and magnet. The stated gap is a maximum under suitable alignment, not an installation target.
Roller or overhead-door contact Garage doors, roller shutters, curtain doors and commercial openings. Heavy-duty housing, armoured lead, track clearance, movement and mounting position.
Armoured commercial contact Higher-impact or exposed installations requiring stronger cable and housing protection. Indoor/outdoor rating, cable protection, contact output, gap and fixing method.
How a Magnetic Reed Switch Works

A magnetic contact has two aligned parts: the wired switch and a separate magnet. The switch is normally installed on the fixed frame and the magnet on the moving door or window.

When the opening is closed, the magnet holds the contact in its expected state. Opening the door or window moves the magnet away, changes the circuit state and allows the alarm panel to recognise the zone event.

Reliable operation depends on correct alignment, suitable spacing, secure fixing, protected cabling and the correct zone programming.

Surface-Mounted or Recessed Contact?
  • Surface-mounted contacts are fitted to the face of the frame and moving section. They are generally easier to install, inspect and replace, and are available in colours suited to common frames.
  • Recessed contacts fit into drilled holes in the door and frame for a discreet finish. They require suitable frame depth and careful drilling.
  • Roller-ball contacts operate mechanically when the door closes and must be positioned for reliable movement without binding.

Before drilling, check for glass, metal reinforcement, wiring, narrow frame sections and manufacturer restrictions that could make recessed installation unsuitable.

Normally Closed, Normally Open and SPDT Outputs

Reed switches in this collection include normally closed, normally open and SPDT contact arrangements. These descriptions refer to the switch’s electrical state and must be matched to the intended alarm-zone circuit.

  • Normally closed or closed-loop contacts are commonly used in alarm installations, but the complete zone design must still be confirmed.
  • Normally open contacts are not a direct substitute where the system requires a normally closed circuit.
  • SPDT contacts provide changeover terminals that may support different wiring arrangements when installed correctly.
  • End-of-line resistors and tamper monitoring must be wired and programmed to suit the Solution 2000 zone configuration.

Do not select a contact by physical size alone; confirm the required electrical output before purchase.

Gap Rating, Magnet Alignment and Door Movement

The published gap is the maximum separation at which a contact may operate under the manufacturer’s stated conditions. Actual performance can change with alignment, mounting material, magnet orientation and movement in the opening.

  • Install the switch and magnet closer than the maximum rated gap.
  • Keep both parts aligned in the specified orientation.
  • Allow for door sag, frame movement, vibration and seasonal expansion.
  • Use a steel-door contact where surrounding metal may affect the magnetic field.
  • Test the zone repeatedly from fully closed through the normal opening movement.

A larger advertised gap does not compensate for poor alignment or an unsuitable contact type.

Steel Doors, Roller Shutters and Commercial Openings

Metal doors and moving commercial openings need contacts designed for the installation environment.

  • Steel-door contacts use suitable housings and magnet arrangements for metal-frame installations.
  • Roller and overhead-door contacts provide wider gaps and stronger housings for garage doors and shutters.
  • Armoured leads help protect exposed cabling near moving or high-use doors.
  • Track-mounted contacts must be positioned clear of rollers, hinges, guides and other moving parts.

Confirm the product’s environmental rating before using it in a damp, exposed or outdoor location.

Bosch Solution 2000 Wiring and Compatibility

Compatible hard-wired reed switches connect to available Bosch Solution 2000 alarm zones using suitable alarm cable and the required zone-circuit configuration.

  • Confirm an available zone input and the intended zone type.
  • Use the correct normally closed, normally open or SPDT contact terminals.
  • Install the required end-of-line resistor arrangement.
  • Protect and secure cables at hinges, frames and moving doors.
  • Program the zone for the required entry, perimeter, instant or other supported response.
  • Complete closed, open, tamper and alarm testing after installation.

Wireless alarm keyfobs may be supported through a compatible receiver, but wireless reed-switch detectors are not supported on Bosch Solution 2000.

Before Ordering a Replacement Reed Switch
  • Identify whether the existing contact is surface-mounted, recessed, steel-door or roller-door style.
  • Record the model, contact output and wiring arrangement.
  • Measure the available mounting space, cut-out diameter and installation depth.
  • Check the approximate closed gap and expected door movement.
  • Confirm whether the magnet, cable, terminals, screws or mounting accessories are included.
  • Choose a suitable colour and housing material for the opening.

Photographs of the existing contact, magnet, wiring and door frame can help CTC Communications identify a suitable replacement.
